Lessons to Live By

Retired Naval Officer, Admiral William McRaven recently published a book entitled “Make Your Bed”.  In it, he talks about ten lessons in life that he learned from basic training for Navy Seal Recruits. I have taken the liberty of posting those ten lessons here in this blog. In the following weeks, I will address one lesson per blog, in an attempt to examine how each can relate to you in your quest for a fuller life.

As you are aware, there are many self help books that include a number of lessons that support life improvement.  The following ten lessons can be added to the list.  All bring up points that can be contemplated and perhaps acted upon. Therefore here are the ten lessons listed by Admiral McRaven.

  1. Start your day with a task completed
  2. You can’t do it alone.
  3. Only the size of your heart matters.
  4. Life’s not fair — Drive on.
  5. Failure can only make you stronger.
  6. You must dare greatly.
  7. Stand up to “bullies”.
  8. Rise to the occasion
  9. Give people hope.
  10. Never, ever quit.
In my next blog I will be discussing Admiral McRaven’s first lesson entitled, “Start your day with a task completed” and how it can become your beginning point in your quest for self fulfillment. Each will proceed to be included in future blogs.
